Operation Secret Angel

Angels are a symbol of hope, love, faith, purity, innocence, strength and protection! All things we need this holiday season.

The holiday season is typically viewed as a time of happiness and rejoicing. However, for some this is a time of sadness, loneliness, anxiety, and depression.  The current pandemic has increased the feeling of sadness, isolation and depression especially as individuals/families are not getting together physically with each other or friends during the holidays.

The goal of Operation Secret Angel is to bring joy and happiness to others this holiday season!

One way you can help is by sharing your spectacular holiday decorations. Individuals can register their residence or business to be included on a list of addresses that want to share their lights with others (https://go.unl.edu/lights).  Individual names will not be collected or shared. A list of addresses is available below for you to download or to pull up on your phone to assist everyone to enjoy the lights in the area.

The second way will be accomplished by pairing “need an angel” with “angels” in the community. “Need an angel,” could be individuals homebound due to health reasons, nursing home/assisted living residents, individuals whose families are not close by, or anybody who needs some joy and happiness this holiday season. These individuals can nominate themselves or family and friends can nominate someone.

“Angels” are anybody who is willing to help spread some joy and happiness. Ideas to bring happiness to another include: sending a letter, having children color pictures, invitation to participate in virtual holiday concerts/programs, help set up holiday decorations in their yard, or deliver pre-ordered groceries to name a few. Angels will be paired to an individual in the community who needs some joy and happiness.

The goal of Operation Secret Angel is to bring joy and happiness to others this holiday season. If you are interested in being a part of Operation Secret Angel, then we are looking for you. A Secret Angel can be anyone! To sign-up as “need an angel” or “angel” visit https://go.unl.edu/operationsecretangel or call the Holt County Extension Office at 402.336.2760
