- [0:00] This is Amy Timmerman with Nebraska Extension and this weeks Extension update.
- [0:06] LandLink is a Nebraska Extension program designed to connect new
- [0:09] and beginning farmers and ranchers with retiring landowners interested
- [0:13] in transitioning their land to new owners.
- [0:17] Access to land remains one of the most significant challenges for new farmers.
- [0:21] The high costs of land, livestock, and equipment make it difficult
- [0:25] for them to acquire these essential capital assets.
- [0:29] For traditional multi-generational farms or ranches, transitioning assets
- [0:33] and management from one generation to the next can be easier to plan for.
- [0:38] However, when a farmer or rancher lacks a child willing to take over
- [0:42] the operation, the retirement path becomes less clear.
- [0:46] Many landowners, who are asset-rich but cash-poor,
- [0:50] need to earn income from their land, equipment, and livestock for retirement
- [0:56] while transitioning away from the labor and management of their operation.
- [1:00] Nebraska Land Link is currently accepting
- [1:02] applications from interested land seekers and landowners.
- [1:06] The program aims to provide land access through lease agreements,
- [1:10] lease-to-own arrangements, buy-sell arrangements, or other
- [1:14] creative methods that are mutually beneficial for both parties.
- [1:18] Currently there is a landowner in Boyd County interested in
- [1:22] connecting with a new or beginning producer.
- [1:25] After an interested land seeker or landowner applies to Nebraska Land Link,
- [1:30] the application will be reviewed by Extension personnel.
- [1:34] They will guide participants through the process of
- [1:36] finding a match and provide educational support along the way.
- [1:41] Landowners will have opportunities to interview and review applications
- [1:45] submitted by land seekers to screen for shared values, skills, and interests.
- [1:50] For more information, visit your local Extension
- [1:53] office or go to cap.unl.edu.
- [1:57] Once again, this is Amy Timmerman with Nebraska Extension.
