- [0:00] Hello, this is Debra Walnofer, 4-H Assistant
- [0:04] for Holt and Boyd Counties with your Extension 4-H Update.
- [0:07] When you think of 4-H, do you imagine a farm
- [0:10] and exhibiting animals at the county fair?
- [0:14] Well, think again. 4-H is about so much more.
- [0:18] 4-H is about learning lifelong skills, creating new friendships,
- [0:22] discovering new opportunities, exploring projects, and more.
- [0:27] 4-H offers a wide variety of projects and interests such as
- [0:32] consumer & family sciences, communications & expressive arts,
- [0:38] animals, plants, healthy living, environmental sciences,
- [0:44] science & technology, engineering and college readiness,
- [0:49] agricultural literacy, citizenship and leadership.
- [0:53] In fact, there are over 150 projects youth can choose from.
- [0:58] Some learning activities 4-H’ers might participate in include
- [1:03] communication events, quality assurance training if raising animals for consumption,
- [1:11] livestock judging, home environment, pre-fair days and workshops.
- [1:16] There is a variety of workshops 4-H’ers may attend this summer
- [1:21] that also provide learning experiences as well as lots of fun!
- [1:27] 4-H is for the whole family – 4-H is more than an activity for youth.
- [1:31] 4-H can be a shared experience for the whole family.
- [1:35] Parents, siblings, and relatives can have fun, discovering, working hard,
- [1:41] and growing along with their 4-H youth through 4-H projects and activities.
- [1:47] By making 4-H a family affair,
- [1:49] thousands of families enjoy the quality time it gives them.
- [1:54] Adult volunteers can also lead clubs, lend their
- [1:58] expertise to a particular project areas,
- [2:01] lead workshops and serve on committees with other volunteers.
- [2:07] While enrollment in 4-H is open year-round,
- [2:10] youth interested in participating in the
- [2:13] county fair or the Nebraska State Fair must complete enrollment
- [2:18] through 4-H online by June 15.
