General Rules

  • Check-in begins at 7:00AM; Shooting starts at 8:00AM. You need to check in at least 1 hour before your first line.
  • Entry fee: $10 per person, per discipline, paid the day of event.
  • Awards will be presented after final round on Sunday.
  • Plan for approx. 2 hours for Archery or Air Rifle.
  • Shooters should have a coach and must bring their own firearm and ammunition.
  • Firearms must be empty when checked in.
  • Unsafe or unsportsmanlike behavior will result in disqualification.
  • Must be an active 4-H Shooting Sports member under a certified leader.
  • All requirements follow National 4-H Championship Guidelines unlesss noted.

Dress and Safety Requirements

  • Eye protection is required for all disciplines except archery.
  • Ear protection required for Shotgun, Rifle, Smallbore Pistol, and Muzzleloading.
  • 4-H shirt or white shirt with chevron emblem/armband required.
  • Jeans/slacks without holes required, no shorts.
  • Closed-toe shoes required. Boots allowed except in BB Gun and Air Rifle.
  • Clothing must be appropriate with no offensive content.
  • Noncompliance with dress code may result in disqualification; adjustments may be allowed in inclement weather.

Camping Spots

  • Camping Spots are available for both Friday and Saturday nights. The camping fee is $15 for the weekend, whether you are staying one or two nights.
  • Complete the Holt County Camper Registration Form by June 1 to save your spot. 
  • Showers and bathrooms on-site.

  • Concessions will be available on-site

Archery

  1. Final score will be the combined total of both the Target Round and the 3‑D Round.
  2. Male and female competitors will shoot in the same division.
  3. The Target Round consists of 30 arrows (5 arrows per end) on 48‑inch target faces at the distances listed below.
  4. Age divisions and target distances:
    1. Pre‑Junior (Cub), 8-11 years
      1. 10 arrows at 10 yards
      2. 10 arrows at 20 yards
      3. 10 arrows at 30 yards
    2. Junior (Youth), 12-14 years
      1. 10 arrows at 20 yards
      2. 10 arrows at 30 yards
      3. 10 arrows at 40 yards
    3. Senior (Young Adult), 15-18 years
      1. 10 arrows at 30 yards
      2. 10 arrows at 40 yards
      3. 10 arrows at 50 yards
  5. The 3‑D Round consists of 14 targets, with one arrow shot at each target.
    1. Scoring: Vitals = 10, Kill = 8, Wound = 5
    2. Maximum shooting distances:
    3. Cubs and Youth: up to 30 yards
    4. Young Adult: up to 45 yards
    5. All distances are known distances.
  6. Archery Classes:
    1. Freestyle Limited: Arrows must be drawn and released by hand; no restrictions on sights or stabilizers.
    2. Freestyle: Same as Freestyle Limited but allows the use of a mechanical release.
    3. Bare Bow: Arrows drawn by hand with no sights on the bow or string.

BB Gun

  1. All first-year shooters must have their own coach.
  2. Ten shots from each position: prone, standing, sitting, kneeling.
  3. No scopes or fire jackets allowed.
  4. Smooth bore BB guns ONLY.
  5. All BB guns will be fired from 5 meters.
  6. Rules will coincide with NRA 5-meter BB Gun Rules 2023 Edition

Air Rifle

  1. Twenty shots from each position: prone, kneeling, and standing.
  2. No scopes or fire jackets allowed.
  3. All air rifles will be fired from 10 meters.
  4. Rules will coincide with the NRA Sporter Air Rifle Rules 2023 Edition 

Air Pistol

  1. Air Pistol is open to any 4-H member that has participated in at least one previous year of shooting sports. 40 shots total. (5 shot per bull - if paper target used) Must load a single pellet for each shot.
  2. Class Definitions:
    • Beginners: May be seated or standing, 1 or 2 hands on the grip. Athletes are encouraged to progress to a one-handed position as soon as they may safely do so considering the size of the grip and weight of the pistol. The grip (and hands) may be rested on a firm support or counterbalanced T stand. If a firm support is used, the shooter may rest any part of either or both hands and the butt of the pistol on the supporting material. The firm support should be designed to provide an erect postion with proper sight alignment and extended arm. If the T stand is used, the support point maybe anywhere between elbow and muzzle. The competitor's shooting arm should be fully extended, with the sights at eye level. The non-firing hand may provide support for the firing hand or the butt of the pistol. Must have a coach.
    • Juniors and Intermediates: Can be one hand supported (support must be counterbalance type support) or unsupported. Coaching encouraged.
    • Seniors: Must stand free, without support, completely within the firing point. The complete pistol must be held and fired with one hand only. Bracelets, wristbands, or similar items that might provide support are prohibited on the hand and arm which holds the pistol.
    • Tie Breaker: will be determined by number of 10x’s.

Smallbore Pistol

  1. Smallbore Pistol is open to any 4-H member who has participated in two previous years or passed a state hunter safety course. Smallbore Pistol will shoot 70 recorded shots at a distance of 25 yards.
  2. Slow Fire Bullseye followed by Rapid Fire Bullseye
  3. Slow Fire Bullseye: All slow-fire; 30 shots - 10 shots per 10 minutes string
  4. Rapid Fire Bullseye: (10 shots Swift Fire, 15 shots Fast Fire and 15 shots Speed Fire). Time Limits: Swift Fire - 5 minutes (10 shots); Fast Fire - 20 seconds per 5 shot string (Total 15 shots); Speed Fire - 10 seconds per 5 shot sting (Total 15 shots)
  5. Equipment: .22 pistol, either semi-automatic or revolver. Peep, ghost, optical or electronic sight are prohibited. Ammunition will be .22 LR, No high velocity.
  6. Tie Breaker: Will be determined by number of 10x’s.

Muzzleloading

  1. Black powder substitutes only for muzzleloader.
  2. No scopes
  3. In-lines allowed.
  4. Only a patch round ball is allowed, 50 cl Muzzle Loaders Only
  5. 6 shots, score the best 5.
  6. Tie Breaker: Best score on the 6th shot, if still tie - most 10x scores

.22 Rifle

  1. NRA .22 pistol‑sized silhouette targets will be used.
    • 10 rams at 109 yards, 13 inches
    • 10 turkeys at 84 yards, 7½ inches
    • 10 pigs at 65 yards, 22 inches
    • 10 chickens at 43 yards, 26¾ inches
  2. All guns must be brought in a case and checked in with line judge.
  3. All ammunition MUST remain separate from the gun.
  4. Only .22 long rifle ammunition is permitted.
  5. Any sight - telescopic or metallic - may be used.
  6. A trigger guard must be present; in the event of an accidental discharge,the trigger must be adjusted or the gun replaced.
  7. The stock must be traditionally styled, following conventional factory or silhouette configurations.
  8. The barrel may not exceed 30 inches, measured from the face of the closed bolt to the end of the barrel.
  9. Tie Breaker: Compare the number of silhouettes hit in the following order: Rams → Turkeys → Pigs → Chickens. If still tied, continue to the next closest distance until the tie is broken.

Trap Shooting

  1. Total of 50 rounds at the 16-yard line.
  2. Guns will be unloaded, and actions open when changing stations.
  3. No reloads are allowed.
  4. Reverse Score Tie Breaker: Longest straight run starting with the last bird shot at on that field and count back towards the first missed target.

Holt County 4-H Partner Shoot

Registration for the 2026 Holt County 4-H Partner Shoot
 

General Rules:

  1. Teams may consist of adult–youth or youth–youth pairs, but each team must include at least one 4‑H shooter.
  2. The fee is $20 per team, paid on the day of the shoot; all teams must be pre‑registered.
  3. Registration closes June 1, 2026; no day‑of registrations. Line assignments will be posted and emailed on June 3rd.
  4. All team events follow the same Invitational rules as individual 4‑H shooters; non‑4‑H shooters are not required to wear a 4‑H emblem.
  5. Teams will not necessarily shoot on the same line; youth scores will count for both individual and team events, while adults will be scheduled into open slots and their scores combined with their youth partner’s score at  the end of the day.
  6. There are no age divisions for team events; divisions are based solely on discipline.
  7. Youth shooting individually will pay the $10 individual fee; if also shooting as part of a team, the same score will be used for both, and the team fee of $20 applies.
  8. Shooters may participate on multiple teams; the same score may be used across those teams, but each team must pay its own $20 fee.
  9. Awards will be split‑the‑pot, with payouts to the top three places in each discipline, based on participation.

Disciplines:

  1. Archery - one complete round including a Target 300 round and a 14 Target 3-D course. Adult Partners will shoot from the Young Adult Distances.
  2. BB Gun - Ten shots from each position: prone, standing, sitting, kneeling.
  3. Air Rifle - 20 shots from each position: Kneeling, Prone, Standing
  4. Air Pistol - same fire order as youth shooters, 40 shots, must stand free, without support, completely within the firing point. The complete pistol must be held and fired with one hand only.
  5. .22 Rifle - 40 shots, 10 rams, 10 pigs, 10 chickens, 10 turkeys
    • Open Site – both shooters must have open site, no scope for either shooter.
    • Scoped – one or both shooters have scope
  6. Shotgun – 50 rounds at 16-yard line.
  7. Muzzleloader – 6 shots, score the best 5
  8. Small Bore Pistol –
    • Slow Fire Bullseye: All slow-fire; 30 shots – 10 shots per 10 minutes string.
    • Rapid Fire Bullseye: (10 shots Swift Fire, 15 shots Fast Fire and 15 shots Speed Fire).
