• [0:01] Hello, this is Debra Walnofer, 4-H Assistant for Holt and Boyd Counties
• [0:06] with your Extension 4-H Update.
• [0:09] It’s that time of year to enroll in Holt County 4-H Shooting Sports!
• [0:14] The deadline to enroll in Holt County 4-H Shooting Sports is February 1st!
• [0:20] Starting early in the year is vital so youth attend the appropriate
• [0:25] safety meetings and have multiple practices to make sure they are using
• [0:30] safe gun handling skills and understand the sound fundamentals of shooting.
• [0:37] After all the 4-H Slogan is “Learn by Doing”.
• [0:42] The focus of all 4-H programs is the development of youth
• [0:46] as individuals and as responsible and productive citizens.
• [0:51] The 4-H Shooting Sports Program stands out as an example.
• [0:55] Youth learn marksmanship, the safe and responsible use of firearms,
• [1:01] the principles of hunting and archery, and much more.
• [1:06] The activities of the program and the support of caring adult leaders
• [1:10] provide young people with opportunities to develop life skills,
• [1:16] self-worth, and conservation ethics.
• [1:20] Depending on the age of the youth, youth may explore different
• [1:24] shooting sports disciplines, such as: Archery, BB Gun, Air Rifle, Air Pistol,
• [1:32] Smallbore Rifle, Smallbore Pistol, Shotgun, Trap Team and Muzzle Loading.
• [1:40] The focus of the Nebraska 4-H Shooting Sports program
• [1:44] are the total development of the 4-H member.
• [1:48] The shooting sports and related natural resource activities
• [1:52] are utilized as a vehicle for human growth and development.
• [1:57] It uses the skills and disciplines of shooting to assist young people
• [2:03] and their leaders in obtaining knowledge and developing skills.
• [2:08] 4-H Shooting Sports promotes positive
• [2:11] youth-adult interactions and peer leadership.
