- [0:04] for Holt and Boyd Counties with your Extension 4-H Update.
- [0:08] February is Nebraska 4-H Month and a great opportunity to celebrate 4-H!
- [0:15] In 2023 we want to celebrate all the opportunities 4-H offers
- [0:20] to help young people find a place where they belong.
- [0:25] Ways to Celebrate Nebraska 4-H month -
- [0:29] Have a 4-H Spirit Day -
- [0:31] Wear green, the 4-H emblem, or your favorite 4-H T-shirt!
- [0:37] 4-H Volunteer Appreciation Day -
- [0:40] Send handwritten thank-you notes, treats, or goody bags
- [0:43] to your club and projects leaders.
- [0:46] 4-H Weekend of Service -
- [0:49] Coordinate your own community service project,
- [0:51] such as picking up trash, holding a food drive,
- [0:55] collecting items for a local shelter, or making care packages.
- [0:59] Volunteer your time with a local non-profit organization.
- [1:04] 4-H Supporter Appreciation Day -
- [1:07] Ask your local Extension office for the contact
- [1:10] information for a 4-H donor and sponsor.
- [1:14] Send them a hand-written thank-you note.
- [1:17] 4-H Professional Appreciation Day –
- [1:20] Make and deliver 4-H-themed treats or goody bags or shout out your local 4-H
- [1:26] extension educators, assistants, and staff on social media.
- [1:32] The power of positive youth development.
- [1:35] Effective youth development programs like 4-H
- [1:38] are putting the research to work by focusing on three important areas
- [1:44] Positive and sustained relationships between youth and adults
- [1:49] Activities that build important life skills
- [1:54] Opportunities for youth to use these skills
- [1:58] as participants and leaders in valued community activities.
- [2:03] The results of this research - 4-H’ers Excel!
- [2:08] 4-H’ers are. . .
- [2:10] Nearly 4 times more likely to make contributions to their communities
- [2:14] About 2 times more likely to be civically active
- [2:19] Nearly 2 times more likely to participate in science programs
- [2:23] compared to girls in other out-of-school time activities.
- [2:29] Nearly 2 times more likely to make healthier choices
- [2:33] Now those results are a REASON to CELEBRATE 4-H!
- [2:38] Now is the perfect time to be thinking about joining
- [2:41] this amazing positive youth development organization.
