Soybean Gall Midge: Dealing with a New Trouble Maker in the Midwest
Soybean gall midge dealt a heavy blow to some soybean farmers in east-central Nebraska while others are unaware of its existence. This presentation will highlight the pests current distribution and injury to soybean in Nebraska as well as updates on field research projects funded by the Nebraska Soybean Board, North Central Soybean Research Program, USDA-NIFA and industry collaborations. No single tactic or practice eliminated soybean gall midge but some promising tactics in combination with cultural control strategies may be able to reduce the level of plant injury and economic losses from this new species.
