Nebraska 4-H requires all youth enrolled in livestock projects to complete annual quality assurance training through Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA).

Youth for the Quality Care of Animals

YQCA is a national multi-species quality assurance program focused on three core pillars:
food safety,  animal well-being, and character development

Youth will need to complete the online training or sign up for in person training. In person training dates: Jan 22, 2024, (6:00 pm-7:15pm), March 11, 2024,(6:00pm-7:15pm),  May 13, 2024 (6:00pm-7:15pm) and June 5, 2024 (10am-11am). Sign up in 4HOnline,  just enroll or reenroll in 4HOnline, once your enrollment has been approved, log into your 4HOnline  account and use the events tab to register. Registration will open approximatley 1 month before the training. Free codes and instructions will be emailed to you once you have completed the in person training. Free codes are for Cass County 4-H members (primary club is in Cass County and who are showing livestock at the Cass County Fair only). 

  The Cass County 4-H Council has again purchased training codes so our 4-H members can take this training at NO COST!!! Thank you Cass County 4-H Council! 

Online self study participants  can contact Tammy @ tcavanaugh2@unl.edu  to receive your free YQCA Code.

Please note: 4-Hers must be enrolled as an active member for 2024 before taking the YQCA training

Cost:  The cost for online completion is FREE this year. When the 4-Her completes his or her online training please email the certificate to Tammy @tcavanaugh2@unl.edu.

Requirements

Nebraska 4-H youth ages 8-18, who are enrolled in any of the livestock projects listed below, are required to complete the YQCA online course annually. The deadline to complete your annual YQCA training in Cass County is June 15, 2024 for county fair exhibition. 4-H members who exhibit at the Nebraska State Fair or will need to have their YQCA training requirements met by the date of entry for those respective shows.

Youth enrolled in any of following projects or project areas will need to complete YQCA training:

  • Beef 
  • Dairy Cattle
  • Goat
  • Poultry
  • Rabbit
  • Sheep 
  • Swine
