Cass County 4-H Kits

Complete 4-H activities in your own time and at your own pace. Check out a kit for a two week period, complete as many of the activities as you desire, and return the kit to us.  With a wide variety of topics available, you're sure to find one that fits exactly what you're looking for! Perfect for club meetings, homeschool activities, or to supplement your existing curriculum. Free for Cass County 4-H members and club leaders; nominal fee for non-members. Agriculture

Farm in a Glove – Grow your own farm in a glove! This kit contains instructions and enough materials for 30 students to plant four seeds in the fingers of a glove! In just a few days, students will have their own “farm” right at their fingertips. This an excellent activity for elementary aged students(K – 3rd) to learn about Nebraska’s #1 industry – agriculture! 

Gardening and Plants – This kit features a variety of educational materials and tools to help youth gain a basic understanding of plant science and put their own garden plan into action. It also includes a fun, interactive Fruit and Vegetable Bingo game for youth to further discover all they can grow in their garden. Recommended for youth in grades 3rd – 6th

Embryology - Hatch baby chicks from fertilized eggs! Youth will follow along each day as the eggs develop, and learn about the the changes happening inside the egg. Watch as the chicks emerge from their eggs and discover their surroundings. Recommended for all ages. This kit has a cost associated with it. 

Animals Inside and Out - An educational program designed for 3rd through 5th Grade Youth to learn more about Animal Science! Youth will gain knowledge and understanding of the livestock industry,  become aware of careers related to animal science, develop science skills and SET abilities to help solve everyday situations. The focus of these lessons are meat, milk and fiber production. Recommended for 3rd - 5th grades.

Leadership and Communication 

Leadership Summit - At a critical time when early middle school students choose to take the wrong ‘trail’ in life, help prepare them to be tomorrow’s leaders and role models. This kit allows 5th and 6th graders to see the world from a new perspective and learn to be more effective leaders, as well as team members. The assessments and activities in this kit give student the opportunity to learn more about their strengths, skills, and qualities as a leader. 

Communication - Successful communication occurs when there is an understanding of the message being sent and received. Teaching young people how to communicate effectively helps them maintain healthy relationships, work well in teams, resolve conflicts, excel in school, increase confidence, and prepares them for life beyond the classroom. In this kit, students will practice effective communication skills, in the areas of verbal, non-verbal, listening, written and digital through hands-on interactive activities. Recommended for youth in grades 5th – 7th

Emotional Ruler - This kit will introduce students K-2 to emotional intelligence using the Emotional Ruler. It will teach youth to identify their own emotions as well as others around them. Students will understand the value of their own and of others’ feelings, and investigate ways to regulate their emotions. This lesson guides youth through the five stages of emotion: recognize, understand, label, express, and regulate. Recommended for youth in grades K – 2nd.

STEM and Natural Resources

LEGO Robotics - The LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime Set combines LEGOs with a drag-and-drop Scratch-based coding language. From entry-level projects to limitless creative design possibilities, this kit encourages students to think critically and solve complex problems through fun, hands-on experiences. Recommended for grades 6th - 8th. Some restrictions apply. 

Rockets to the Rescue - In this lesson, youth learn engineering concepts, develop math skills, learn about nutrition and help solve a relevant, global issue while designing, building, and testing their own stomp rockets. Recommended for youth in grades 4th – 8th.

Power of Wind - Discover the basics behind wind energy! Youth design, create, build, and test wind powered devices and explore wind as a potential energy source.

Insect Escape RoomTurn your classroom into an entomology lab! Test your problem solving skills and learn entomology along the way as student teams compete to solve the clues and become the newest lab assistant. 

Family and Consumer Science

Baking ScienceWhat makes a cookie soft and rounded, or flat and brittle? Learn the science behind chocolate chip cookies as you design an experiment using the scientific method. Bake your experiment, record your results, then eat your tasty treats!

Quilt Block SewingLearn to sew with our beginning quilt block kits! Each kit contains one precut quilt block in a variety of fabrics. Learn the basics of construction and sew the block together with your own sewing machine (or check out one of ours). Return your block to be joined with others into a quilt to be displayed at fair!

Healthy LivingFood, Nutrition & Health programs teach youth the valuable life skills they need, so they can make healthy and safe decisions in their daily lives. In this program, youth gain knowledge and develop skills for making health and safe decisions in their daily lives, gain an understanding of what positive relationships look like, practice healthy and safe decision making, exhibit increase resiliency, develop positive relationships with adults and peers, and maintain a healthy and safe lifestyle leading to decreased health related problems and medical costs. Programs are available for K-12th grade.
