Three days of meetings for Ag Land Transition and Estate Planning Workshps will be held at the Cass County Extension Office, November 20 | December 4 | and December 10th.
These workshops are for agricultural landowners, ranchers and farmers thinking about how they should proceed with plans to retire, exit or transfer the farm or ranch business.
“Retiring or passing the farm to the next generation is difficult to think about and is an admission of your own impending demise,” said Allan Vyhnalek, extension educator in farm succession. “However, it is a necessary step and, with good planning, can be made as painless as possible.”
The workshop will be free, but registration is requested and can be completed by contacting Nebraska Extension in Cass County at 402-267-2205, or in person at the Extension office, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
At the Nov. 20 workshop, Vyhnalek will cover the importance of having a plan, proper family communications and proper family negotiations. The Dec. 4 session will be led by Nick Montague, an attorney with Goosmann Law, and will cover end-of-life documentation, tax considerations at death and tools for estate planning like wills, trusts, LLCs and other business entities. The Dec. 10 workshop will be led by Randy Nesbit, a consultant with Protective Distributors, and Brent Connelly, a financial advisor with Edward Jones. They will cover the use of insurance products, investment strategies, buy/sell agreements and other transition strategies.
