The Box Butte County Fair BB Gun & Air Rifle Shoot is open to Shooting Sports members who have been in a club with a certified instructor and have attended safety sessions and practice shoots.
The Box Butte County Fair Trap Shoot is open to members who have been in the Box Butte Blasters Trap Club with a certified instructor and have completed the Hunter’s Safety Course, meet the requirement age (11 years old before January 1 of current year), attended safety sessions, and practice shoots (one practice shoot attendance is required to participate in the county fair shoot).
Fair registration forms must be in the Extension Office by July 1, 2026
All firearms will be inspected prior to the shoot by a certified instructor who will have the final say on all questionable firearms. Unsafe firearms will be disqualified, not the 4-H member. 4-Hers will be allowed to borrow another firearm.
Shooting Sports instructors will have the authority to set safety rules and regulations the day of the shoot and may disqualify any participant who endangers the safety of their fellow shooters or spectators.
Dress Code. To shoot at the Box Butte County Fair, 4-H Shooting Sports members are required to wear:
a. Long Blue Jeans
b. 4-H Council approved t-shirt
c. Appropriate shoes
d. Eye protection is mandatory.
Division H990, Shooting Sports (BB Gun & Air Rifle)
Competition BB Gun will be held in accordance with NRA 5-meter BB Gun rules most recent addition. Target range will be 5 meters. Equipment and guns must meet NRA requirements (aperture sights allowed). Telescopic sights will not be allowed. The course of fire will be four positions (standing, sitting, kneeling and prone), 10 shots each position, for a total of 40 shots. The target will be a standard 5-meter BB gun target.

Sporter Competition Air Rifle will be held in accordance with CMP 10-meter sporter air rifle rules most recent edition. Target Range will be 10 meters. Equipment and guns must meet CMP requirements (aperture sights allowed). The course of fire will be 3 positions (standing, sitting and prone). 10 shots each position, for a total of 30 shots. The target will be a standard 10-meter air rifle target.

The competition Trap Shoot will be held at the Alliance Trap Club.
Age divisions are determined by the 4-H age as of January 1 of the current year.
Intermediate Division – Targets will be a total of 50 shots. (50 singles at the 16-yard line)
40–50 Targets = Purple
25–39 Targets = Blue
0–24 Targets = Red
Senior Division – Targets will be a total of 100 shots (100 singles at the 16-yard line)
85–100 Targets = Purple
60–84 Targets = Blue
0–59 Targets = Red
