
EATING FOR A HEALTHY BABY
NUTRITION GUIDELINES FOR PREGNANT TEENS

A teenager's body is still growing, eat for you and your baby.

You need more calories, protein, calcium, and vitamins than other pregnant
women.

Don't try to lose weight. You need to gain weight when you are pregnant.

Gain about 4 pounds during the first three months, and then 3 or 4 pounds
every month after that.

Eat three meals and three healthy snacks daily. Eat on a regular schedule.
Some healthy snack ideas are:

Sandwich and milk
-
Cereal with milk
-
Ice cream
-
Cookies and milk
-
Milk shake
-
Pizza
-
Cheese and crackers
-
Peanut butter and crackers
-
Leftovers from a meal
-
Cheese toast with juice
-
Yogurt with fruit or nuts
-
Apples and cheese
-
-
Talk with your doctor or nurse about a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement.
Remember a supplement never replaces food for you and your baby.

Seek medical and nutritional care. Contact your local Women, Infant, Children
Supplemental Food Program (WIC) for assistance.
