Dakota-Thurston County 4-H Public Speaking & Favorite Foods Contest!

Dakota & Thurston County 4-Her’s got the chance to participate at the 4-H Public Speaking and Favorite Food Contests, held on March 19, 2022, at the United Church of Pender. Our judge for the morning was Jayd Roberts, and we want to give her a big thanks for making this experience possible for our local 4-H youth.
Five 4-H members were awarded ribbons as a part of the Public Speaking/Speech Contest. 4-H exhibitors prepare a speech to present in front of an audience. From the county contest up to 5 speakers from the Intermediate (10-13) and Senior (14+) divisions, from both Dakota & Thurston Counties, are selected by the judge to participate in Lincoln on June 24, 2022.
To break the ice and be the first one to start the day, the kids decided Extension Educator, Jennifer Hansen needed to give the first speech! They gave her the speech topic of figuring out how to decide who should speak first. The solution, a rock, paper, scissors bracket!

With the conclusion of the Public Speaking contest, judging moved onto the Favorite Foods contest. 4-Her’s are to select and prepare your favorite recipe; check. Plan a menu using that favorite recipe; check. Plan your table setting, add a center piece; check. Review the proper way to list a menu, and print on a 4x6 card; check. Print your favorite recipe on a 4x6 card; check. All of these steps were taken by the 4-H’ers that participated in 4-H Favorite Foods Contest.
