20) Quality Assurance In-Person Training

In-person training for QA in Frontier County will be: April 11 in Curtis at 6:30 pm. Mark your calendars now!

What is Quality Assurance (QA) & Who is required to complete Quality Assurance?

Livestock Quality Assurance is a course designed for youth ages 8-18. Participants learn about good production practices and producing quality food products that come from livestock.

4-H and FFA youth ages 8-18, who are enrolled in any of the livestock projects listed below are required to complete three (3) modules in the NE Livestock Quality Assurance Online Course annually, or attend an in-person training or test out.  Any youth who enrolled in any of the livestock projects listed below are required to complete Livestock Quality Assurance annually for County Fair, State Fair and/or AKSARBEN.

  • Beef
  • Sheep
  • Swine
  • Rabbit (State Fair Only)
  • Poultry (Only Production Broilers and Turkeys for County Fair or any for State Fair)
  • Meat Goat
  • Dairy Goat
  • Dairy Cattle

The online course has been divided into three age levels:

  • Junior - 4-H youth ages 8-10
  • Intermediate - 4-H youth ages 11-14
  • Senior - 4-H youth ages 15-18

Youth are required to complete three modules within their age level. As of right now, youth can still work ahead and complete all modules within their age level, so they are done with QA requirements until they reach the next age level.

Nebraska Online Quality Assurance

To access the Nebraska Livestock Quality Assurance Online Course (YQCA) and complete (3) modules, follow the instructions listed on website: https://yqca.learngrow.io/Account/Login.  You will use your FAMILY 4HOnline login and password information to access the courses for the ACTIVE youth in your family.  If youth show up as PENDING in 4-H Online, call Peggy and she will activate them.  Usually this is done once dues are paid but she can make an exception to the rule if you call her.  Only ACTIVE members will show in the drop down menu for access to the course.  All 4-H’ers need to use the 4-H tab and not the FFA tab even if they are members of both organizations.  There is a button for families that have forgotten their password.

Testing Out

Intermediate and Senior age levels still have the option to test out of the current NE Livestock Quality Assurance Program at no cost. Youth may stop by the Frontier County Extension Office to take the test. Test must be completed in the office, and must be passed with an 80 percent or higher score.

21) 2017 AKSARBEN

Show Schedule, Programs and Judges can be found at:  http://www.aksarbenstockshow.com/p/events/359  Additional information can be found at: http://www.aksarbenstockshow.com/

22) New 2017 State Fair Livestock Rule & Fees

All 4-H and FFA Market animals carrying an EID tag are required to have a Premises ID. (This includes any that may show at only the county level as well). Your Premises ID number can be obtained through the Nebraska Department of Agriculture.  Only one (1) Premises ID is necessary for a family with multiple exhibitors (provided livestock are housed at the same location).  Only one (1) Premises ID is necessary for an exhibitor that shows multiple species (provided livestock are housed at the same location).

Any exhibitor who has completed PQA (Pork Quality Assurance) should have a Premises ID. They can call the Nebraska Department of Ag to verify if they believe they have one. The Premises ID number should correlate to the location in which livestock are kept/housed permanently.

Since breeding animals do not carry EID tags, this is not a requirement for those exhibitors at this time. You will need to report the Premises ID number to the extension office for input into 4-H Online. In order to show at the Nebraska State Fair, a Premises ID must be on file for a market animal exhibitor.
