BARN QUILTS

Who: Boys and girls ages 12 to 18

What: Youth will learn about the history of the Barn Quilt Movement in the United States and Nebraska, how Barn Quilts can increase tourism and community vitality in your area, entrepreneurship opportunities, as well as how to plan your design, and paint your Barn Quilt!

When: Thursday, June 1 , 9: 30 a. m.  to 4: 00 p. m.

Where: 4-H Building, Broken Bow

Registration Deadline: May 22...so that your wood block can be ordered, cut, and primed before class. Each Barn Quilt will measure 1’ x 1’. This workshop is open to 20 participants on a first come, first served basis. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required. No cancellations taken after pre-registration date has passed. Session is limited to 20 participants.

Registration Fee: Cost for the workshop is $32 per person, and includes all supplies and lunch.

What to Bring: Wear clothes that you can paint in.  Bring a small pastry roller,  if you have one.  You can also bring snacks to munch on during the day. We can put all snacks together like a buffet!

 

 

 CREATIVE CANVAS

Who: Boys and girls ages 8 to 13

What: Tap into your inner artist to create a one-of-a-kind showpiece! Follow along the step-by step guided painting class to create a one-of-a kind canvas painting!  Aprons will be provided, but please dress accordingly for painting.

When: Friday, June 2, 1:00 to 3:30 p. m.

Where: 4-H Building, Broken Bow

Registration Deadline: May 26. Session is limited to 20 participants.

Registration Fee: $10.00 per person.  Canvas, brushes, paint, and easels will be provided for the afternoon.

 

 

 DESIGN DILEMMAS

Who: Boys and girls grades 3-5, in the Fall of 2017

What: Practice clothing design through constructing newspaper hats, paper bag fashions, and seasonal outfit flip booklets!

 When: Tuesday, June 6th, 10:00 a. m. to 11:00 a. m.

Where: Broken Bow Library’s Temporary Location, 220 Industrial Park Drive , Broken Bow

Registration Deadline: Thursday, June 1

INTERMEDIATE FOODS ( Two Dates & Two Locations)

Who: Boys and girls 9-18 years old

What: Participants will learn how to bake and eat healthy.

 When: Wednesday, June 7, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

When: Tuesday, June 20, 10:00 a. m.  to 3:00 p. m.

Where: Halsey

Registration Deadline: Thursday, June 1 .  Session is limited to 1 2 participants.

THRILLING QUILLING(Two Dates & Two Locations)

Who: Youth ages 10-14 years of age

What: Can pictures be created by techniques other than drawing or painting? Through this art technique that uses rolling paper to make a design, students will fabricate a picture!

When: Thursday, June 8, 1:00 p. m. to 3:00 p. m.

Where: 4-H Building, Broken Bow

OR

When: Friday, June 23, 1:00 p. m. to 3:00 p. m.

Where: Church of Christ, Sargent

YARN ON MY ARM?

Who: Youth ages 10 to 15

What: Knitting does not always have to be done with needles. Learn to knit using your arms in this workshop and make a beautiful scarf from a bulky wool blend yarn!

When: Friday, June 9, 1:00 to 3:00 p. m.

Where: 4-H Building, Broken Bow

CLOVER KIDS "ART" FUN DAY

Who: Boys and girls who are age 5-7 by January 1, 2017. Participants MUST bring an adult helper.

What: Explore your creative side through color wheel activities, sponge painting, scratch art design, and even an artistic snack!

When: Monday, June 12, 1:00 p. m. to 2:30 p. m.

Where: 4-H Building, Broken Bow

 Registration Deadline: Monday, June 5

Registration Fee: $1 0. 00 which includes all material for activities

 

 

DESIGN CAMP-  DATE CHANGE ON THIS CAMP

Who:   4-H’ers must be enrolled in “STEAM Clothing 2 - Simply Sewing” or “STEAM Clothing 3 - A Stitch Further” and be 10 years of age or older to participate in the camp.

What: Future fashion designers and fashionistas will use watercolors to design two 4-H projects. One is a yard of fabric, and the other is fabric to create a garment, both of which can be entered in Beyond the Needle. They will also use engineering design principles to create a simple Wear Tec project. The fashionistas will also have the opportunity to enjoy the 4-H camp experience by tubing down the river, zipping down the zipline, and spending a night at the camp.

When: Wednesday, June 14 through Thursday, June 15.

The camp will begin Wednesday, June 14 at 9:00 a.m. CDT and conclude on Thursday, June 15 at 4:00 p.m with a runway style show with everyone modeling their original creation.

Where: State 4-H Camp, Halsey

Registration Deadline: Monday, June 5

Instructors: Sue Pearman,  Nebraska Extension Educator-Central Sandhills Area; Jessye Goertz, Nebraska Extension Educator-Custer County; and Audrey Foster, Summer 4-H Staff.

 Registration Fee: Cost is $125 per 4-H’er, which covers all fabric, watercolors, the Wear Tec project, and camp expenses. Contact the Central Sandhills Area Extension Office for enrollment forms and more information at 1-308-645-2267, or Sue Pearman at spearman2@unl.edu.

 What to Bring: Participants may  bring a pattern for a top, skirt, pants or shorts, simple dress, or romper to sew from their fabric. Campers should also bring a sewing machine and sewing notions.

 

 

CLOVER KIDS "AEROSPACE" FUN DAY

Who: Boys and girls who are age 5-7 by January 1, 2017. Participants MUST bring an adult helper.

What: Students will get creative as they construct a space buggy, map out a space station, and assemble an “out-of-this-world” snack!

When: Friday, June 1 6, 1:00 p. m. to 2:30 p. m.

Where: 4-H Building, Broken Bow

 Registration Deadline: Friday, June 9

Registration Fee: $10.00

 What to Bring: If desired, bring household items or items that could be used for the space buggy or space station. These items can include, but are not limited to: clean household materials such as paper towel tubes, tissue boxes, plastic bottles, etc.

 

 

THEATER ARTS/PUBLIC SPEAKING

Who: Youth ages 8 to 1 2

What: Students will expand their public speaking skills and practice giving demonstrations through various activities. The workshop will not be all performing, as the attendees will give their voices a break as they create simple marionette puppets!

When: Monday, June 19, 10:00 a. m.  to 12:00 p. m.

Where: 4-H Building, Broken Bow

What to Bring: Each student will need 2 toilet paper tubes.

 

 

STEM WORKSHOP

 Who: Boys and girls ages 4 to 1 2

What: Use your knowledge of Science, T echnology, Engineering, and

 Mathematics by creating newspaper towers, constructing paper bag castles, and completing 90 second invention challenges!

When: Wednesday, June 21 , 10:00 a. m. to 11:00 a. m.

Where: Municipal Building, 314 South 10th Avenue, Broken Bow

Registration Deadline: Monday, June 19

CUPCAKE AND GINGERBREAD WORKSHOP

Who: Youth ages 8 to 1 2

What: Participants will explore the world of food artistry by learning about the different cupcake decorating techniques using various frosting tips and candies. Students will also begin to discover gingerbread house decorating skills with graham cracker houses!

When: Thursday, June 22, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Where: Home Ec. Room, Callaway High School

NUTS ABOUT NATURE

Who: Boys and girls ages 4 to 1 2

What: Explore the natural world around you by creating a nature journal, doing leaf printings, bug hunting, and going on an un-nature walk!

When: Wednesday, June 28, 10:00 to 11:00 a. m.

Where: Municipal Building, 312 South 10th Avenue, Broken Bow

Registration Deadline: Wednesday, June 21

MOVIE NIGHT

 Who: Boys and girls who are age 5-7 by January 1, 2017

What: Pizza is one of the most popular foods in the United States. Pizza contains foods from four different food groups in the MyPyramid, so it is considered a healthy food. Throughout the lesson, youth will learn pizza doesn’t just come from a box or restaurant; it actually comes from the farm “and has a cow on it.” Participants will enjoy pizza and a movie during the evening.

 When: Thursday, June 29, 5:00 to 7:30 p. m.
