Extension Awards

Nebraska Extension annually awards outstanding and innovative professionals in the following areas.  Anyone can nominate an Extension professional through the nomination form which is due by October 1.  An awards selection committee reviews the nominations and provides a list of recommendations to the Dean and Director.  Awards are announced and distributed during the Joint NCEA and Extension Fall Conference Annual Banquet in November.

Chester I. Walters Extra Mile Award

The Chester I. Walters “Extra Mile” Award is intended to recognize staff members who show evidence of “going beyond the call of duty” in carrying out the responsibilities of their particular assignment.

A minimum of three years of service is required. Recipients may be educators, specialists or administrative staff.

Innovative Extension Specialist Award

The award provides recognition of outstanding contributions by an Extension Specialist in the program area(s) relative to his/her assignment. The award recognizes imaginative leadership in developing and carrying out programs in cooperation with Extension Educators and other Extension Specialists as appropriate.

A minimum of three years of service with Nebraska Extension.

Innovative Extension Managerial/Professional Award

The award recognizes imaginative and sustained leadership by an Extension Managerial- Professional (For example, Extension Associate, Assistant, Aide) in carrying out Extension programs. Cooperation with other Extension faculty in carrying out such a program should be evident.

A minimum of three years of service with Nebraska Extension. University and county, full or part-time staff are eligible.

Innovative Extension Educator Award

The award recognizes innovative programming by an Extension Educator in carrying out innovative programs. Cooperation with other Extension faculty in carrying out such a program should be evident. Special emphasis will be given to an educator who demonstrates 1) innovative use of technology and media in curriculum products and/or delivery and/or 2) contribution to a comprehensive impact evaluation plan and/or 3) contribution to critical or emerging issues of the targeted clientele and/or 4) engagement of an underserved audience.

A minimum of three years of service with Nebraska Extension.

Innovative Extension New Employee Award

To recognize Extension workers in their first three years of service who has exhibited an innovative program that reaches new audience in new ways. Special emphasis will be given to a new employee that strives to reach new audiences with new programming that embraces new technology.

Extension Specialists, Educators and Associates/Assistants with at least a 50% Extension appointment and in their first three years of Extension work at the time the nominations are due.

Innovation in Team Programming Award

To recognize the importance of interdisciplinary team efforts in achieving the goals of Nebraska Extension.

By definition, a team is two or more people working toward a specific objective(s). Interdisciplinary teams obviously involve the participation of persons trained in different fields and having different skills. The team participants named in nominations should include only those persons who have made significant contributions to the team effort. These are the lead team persons who came together to initiate an idea, did the initial planning and developed the team effort program. The selection committee will consider the following criteria in making their rankings of nominations: 1) problem identification, team strategy, grant success; 2) productivity and impact and the output of the team in relation to inputs; and 3) the team effort.
